Support Ciaron O’Reilly’s Vigil for Assange
Since early April 2023, Ciaron O’Reilly has been camped at the entrance of HM Prison Belmarsh (London) in solidarity with Julian Assange. Now, his friends are asking for financial support to help him continue the vigil in good health.
The following is based on an email sent out by Frank Cordaro.

Since early April 2023, Ciaron O’Reilly has been camped at the entrance of HM Prison Belmarsh (London) in solidarity with Julian Assange. As a result of this continuous vigil, O’Reilly has experienced significant weight loss, dropping from 238 lbs to 182 lbs; he has also developed chronic chest and eye infections.
The vigil is set to conclude on February 20, coinciding with Julian Assange’s final appeal. This pivotal moment holds two potential outcomes: Assange’s release from Belmarsh as a free man or his extradition to the U.S. for a life in solitary confinement.
In the face of these challenges, Ciaron is in dire need of financial support to sustain his physical and psychological well-being. Contributions are greatly appreciated. Those willing to support can donate through his GoFundMe. Your generosity is crucial in supporting O’Reilly’s continued advocacy and solidarity efforts.
A longstanding member of the Catholic Worker movement since the 1970s, O’Reilly was mentoed by Frs. Daniel and Philip Berrigan. He has participated in Plowshares actions across three continents, resulting in two years of imprisonment and a ban plus deportation from the U.S. in 1993, where he was labeled a ‘national security’ concern.
