In this episode of the Coffee with Catholic Workers podcast, co-hosts Theo Kayser and Lydia Wong are in conversation with Daniel Delapava, Dan Justman, and Quinn Smith from St. Francis House in Chicago. Ellsberg is best known for leaking the Pentagon Papers to the New York Times in June 1972; however, in his letter he calls his work for nuclear disarmament his greatest cause. Ellsberg is also the father of Robert Ellsberg, editor at Orbis Books and managing editor of The Catholic Worker newspaper from 1976-1978.
Frits ter Kuile (Jeannette Noel House, Amsterdam, Netherlands) joins Coffee with Catholic Worker to share his story, which ranges from anarchist squats to imprisonment for draft resistance to marches across the U.S. for peace. He also shares some of the good work being done by other Catholic Workers across Europe.
House of Grace Catholic Worker (Philadelphia) sent this letter to its community remembering Bishop Thomas Gumbleton, who passed away on April 4. Community members and staff from Kay Lasante Clinic in Haiti, which he helped found, shared personal memories and tributes to his legacy of compassion and love.
