Casa Esther Catholic Worker Seeks House Manager / Couple

We are seeking an individual or couple to join us as live-in volunteers and help propel our mission forward.

Casa Esther Catholic Worker House is located in Omro, Wisconsin, just 10 miles west of Oshkosh. Our work is organized around three core pillars:

House of Hospitality – We operate a busy Basic Needs Distribution and rental assistance program.
Roundtable Discussions – We host nonviolence webinars in collaboration with Pax Christi.
Connection with Nature – We maintain a large garden and run a garden education program for local youth.

We strive to be a place of healing and prayer, guided by the principles of the Catholic Worker Aims and Means. Our service area includes Omro, Oshkosh, and the greater Winnebago County region, where we collaborate with various social service organizations and government agencies.

Founder and Spiritual Director, Fr. Joe Mattern
A part-time Executive Director
A part-time Administrative Assistant
Numerous dedicated volunteers

Casa Esther is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by a Board of Directors. Our Founder resides at the House.

We believe this opportunity might especially suit someone transitioning from a bustling, urban Catholic Worker House who is seeking a quieter experience. We work closely with local nonprofits and county agencies—so comfort with nonprofit operations and 501(c)(3) structures is important.

We are currently involved in launching a Safe Parking Program for Winnebago County—experience in this area is a plus!

Position Description

Primary duties include:

Assisting with the Basic Needs Distribution and other operations under the direction of the Executive Director
Helping with facility maintenance, cleaning, and simple repairs
Supporting the needs of the Founder and Spiritual Director
Participating in our Peter Maurin Garden program
Ensuring the facility is locked and safe
Administering first aid, when possible
Performing other duties as needed

Optional duties may include:

Supporting our social media presence
Assisting with website maintenance

Desired Qualifications

A willing heart to make a 1-year commitment to our mission
Interest in social justice work
Ability to live cooperatively in a group-house setting, with a spirit of love, support, and nonjudgment
Spanish fluency is a plus, but not required
