A Catholic Worker Primer (Chuck Trapkus)

“A Catholic Worker Primer” was originally drawn by Chuck Trapkus in 1986 and continues to be distributed and reprinted in Catholic Worker circles as much for its ability to distill the essence of the Movement as for its fun and irreverent style.

“A Catholic Worker Primer” was drawn by Chuck Trapkus, and originally printed in the catholic radical, the newspaper of the (now defunct) Rock Island (Illinois) Catholic Worker, most likely (according to Brian Terrell’s recollection) in 1986 or shortly thereafter. It’s been reprinted and distributed by Catholic Workers ever since. While Trapkus offered the disclaimer that it was his own “embarrassingly skewed” take on the Movement, the continued popularity of “A Catholic Worker Primer” owes as much to its ability to distill the essence of the Worker as to its fun and irreverent style.
