Hildegard House Catholic Worker Newsletter (Fall 2026)

The Fall 2026 newsletter of Hildegard House Catholic Worker in Duluth, Minnesota

With Hope Beyond Politics, Hildegard House Finds Christ in Community

As the midterm elections approached, Michele Naar-Obed restated the Catholic Worker movementโ€™s philosophy of hope beyond the political systems of the United States. โ€œWe continue to look to the road map that we find in the Sermon on the Mount, the Works of Mercy and the Beatitudes,โ€ Naar-Obed writes in the front-page essay of the newsletter. โ€œI feel like I canโ€™t emphasize enough the importance of those teachings and the need to be very intentional in following them, especially as more and more of them are criminalized,โ€ Naar-Obed writes.

Inside, the community shares stories from their volunteering at a nearby monastery, forming a community with asylum-seekers and Mabon Rhys-Fitch reflects on finding Christ in community.

โ€œAt Hildegard House, we continue to find our place in addressing the humanitarian crisis that migrants are facing. We do this by offering asylum seekers hospitality at the house and by addressing the unjust policies our government has imposed on them,โ€ Naar-Obed writes.

The newsletter ends with Dorothy Dayโ€™s famous February 1942 editorial, โ€œWhy Do the Members of Christ Tear One Another?โ€
